Frostbite: The Graphic Novel by Richelle Mead

And so Frostbite, the second book in the Vampire Academy series is converted into graphic novel format. The question about does it match up to the pictures in our head is somewhat void now, I think. The artwork and how the characters and their world has already been established and this book is continuing the same theme.
Again, though, the new major characters that are introduced into the series; Janine Hathaway, Adrian Ivashkov and Tasha Ozera are not how I pictured them at all. Not in a bad way, just different. For some reason I always picture Adrian as a blonde. Don’t ask me why, though!
The artwork is of a high quality and is consistent throughout and conveyed the story very well for the large part. However, the only part I felt lacking was the groups escape sequence from the Strigoi lair in Spokane and the emotional fall out on the plane home afterwards where Rose starts to connect with her mother. The pictures lacked the impact of what was happening and in this instance, reading about it was more visceral. I don’t know if my opinion is influenced by the fact that I knew what was coming. I feel as though those parts could have done with more panes and pages devoted to them.
That said, however, this is a thick book for a graphic novel. I’m glad I bought it and I enjoyed it but it was finished far too quickly.
